Velma Deitz

Waynesville, Velma Ritter Deitz, 89, of Carolina Avenue, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at her residence. A native of Edgerly, Louisiana, she had previously lived in Texas and Jackson County before moving to Haywood County in 1966. She was the daughter of the late Hampton and Lizzie Myers Ritter and was also preceded in death by her husband, Freeman Benjamin Deitz, who died in 1970; a daughter, Susan T. Hansen; one brother, Alvin Ritter; and grandchildren, Jonathan Best and Kade Jones. Velma is survived by daughters, Peggy S. Medford (Dean), Judy G. Jones (Jimmy), Kathy L. Ledford, Debbie D. McClure (David), Jean Cullen (Greg). Donna E. Deitz, all of Waynesville, Linda K. Smith (Dwight) of Clyde and Joyce A. Guillory (Steven) of Ragley, Louisiana; two sons, Steven R. Deitz of Waynesville and Ronald W. Delcomyn (Brenda) of Pasadena, Texas; 23 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Allens Creek Baptist Church, of which she was a member. Reverend Greg Cullen will officiate. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:45 p.m. prior to services at the church.
