Velma Shelton

Waynesville-Velma Rose Shelton, age 85, of Killian Street, died Saturday, March 27, 2004 at her residence.

She was a native of Haywood County and was the daughter of the late Jessie James and Nora Messer Hannah. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Rose, who died in May 1954, one son, William Larry Rose, and three brothers, Fred, Winfred, and Ralph Hannah. She was a member of Rocky Branch Freewill Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Lloyd Shelton; a daughter, Barbara Sanders of Philippi, West Virginia; four sons, Lloyd, Burl, and Darris Rose, and Tony Shelton, all of Waynesville; four sisters, Orean Caldwell of Kings Mountain, NC, Dessie Parks of Tacoma, Washington, Christine Childers of Whittier, NC, and Verna Buckner of Salem, New Jersey; one brother, Zeb Hannah of Tacoma, Washington; 18 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2004 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Homes and Cremation Services. The Reverend Ernest Messer and Reverend Bill Follett will officiate. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Monday, March 29, 2004, at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence.

The pallbearers will be Burrell Allen Rose, Clifford Brown, Scott Maney, Kevin Ledford, John Conner, and John Conner, Jr.
