Velma Sorrells

Velma Sutton Sorrells, age 75, of 699 West Cove Road died Friday, September 12, 2003 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and the daughter of the late Richard and Minnie Mehaffey Sutton. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Von Sorrells who died in 2000.

She was a homemaker and a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Robinson and her husband, Doug and a son, Doug V. Sorrells and his wife, Sue all of Canton; three sisters Fannie Lockman and Geraldine Caldwell of Maggie Valley and Betty McIntosh of Waynesville; a brother I. C. Sutton of Maggie Valley; four grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 15th at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Bruce Cayton, Reverend David Reeves and Reverend Naomi King officiating. Burial will follow at Beaverdam Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at 28 Garrett Drive, Canton. Pallbearers will be Michael Sorrells, Gary Pressley, Jerry Sutton, Dale Parris, Stokey Caldwell, David Sorrells and Charles Holland.
