Vennice Davis

Waynesville, Vennice Giles Davis, age 94, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Smoky Mountain Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late William Crawford and Grace Marie Hill Giles. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Joe Silas Davis, who died in 1998; a son, Tom Davis; a grandson, Kenny Marler; a sister; and three brothers. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Vennice took great pride in her vegetable and flower gardens and with the help of her husband, she entered and won numerous blue ribbons in the Haywood County Fair. She also enjoyed canning meats, jams and her delicious tomato chili. In her spare time, she loved gazing at the Goldfinch birds outside her kitchen window. She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Hudgins and her husband, Bob, of Guntersville, Alabama and Marie Ferguson and her husband, Carlyle, of Iron Duff; a son, Bill Davis and his wife, Dianne, of Tryon, NC; a brother-in-law, Bill Davis and his wife, Pauline, of Clyde; two sisters-in-law, Maude Davis and Margaret Tompkins both of Waynesville; 13 grandchildren;; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter and a very special friend, Pat Howell. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Antioch Baptist Church with Reverend Gary Hearon, Reverend Alan Davis and Reverend Heath Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Dawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. At other times, the family will be at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Haywood County School Foundation, Attn: Tommy Davis Memorial Scholarship, 1230 North Main Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.
