Vera Cogdill

Vera Cook Cogdill, age 76, died on Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at Maggie Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation. A native of Swain County, she had resided in Haywood County since 1956 and was the daughter of the late Roy and Mamie Hutchins Cook. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Cogdill, who died in 1983. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Blanche Estep; and three brothers Floyd, Leroy, and Joe Cook. She is survived by a son, Dale Cogdill and his friend, Debbie Owen, of Waynesville; four daughters, Debbie Silvers and her friend, Charles Cavanagh, of Kirkwood, PA, Elaine Melton and her husband, Jerry, of Sylva, Beverly Cogdill of Clyde, and Christy Dunn and her husband, Ricky, of Leicester; three sisters, Retha Sieveking and her husband, Stanley, of Bryson City, Barbara Holden and her husband, Bobby, of Charleston, SC, and Patricia McDermott of Jacksonville, FL; three brothers, Wade Cook and his wife, Vivian, of Bryson City, John Cook and his wife, Carol, of Whittier, and Sam Cook and his wife, Marney, of AL; four grandchildren, Chad Silvers, Chris Cogdill, Kaneha Silvers, and Morgan Cogdill; two step-grandchildren, Jeremy and Josh Tankersley; three great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2011, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Mike Farmer officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
