Vera Ferguson

Waynesville, Vera Lee Franklin Chambers Ferguson, age 87, of the Jonathan Creek Community, is now in the presence of the Lord. She passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 after a short-term illness at the Brian Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late James and Frankie Lee Sutton Franklin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Boone William Chambers who died in 1969 and Robert Rankin Ferguson; four sisters, Maggie Jane and Roberta Franklin, Ida Fisher, and Illa Parton; and three brothers, Troy, Grover, and Stanberry Franklin. She was employed at Unagusta and a member of Cove Creek Baptist Church. Vera Lee loved being outdoors especially in her flower and vegetable garden. She had a very generous spirit; always giving away her home canned goods and loved her family with all her heart. She also loved animals of all kinds. She is survived by one son, Frank William Chambers and his wife, Wendy, of Waynesville; two daughters, Claudia Trantham and her husband, Foster, of the Bethel Community and Ella Mae Rose and her husband, Doyle, of Waynesville; two sisters, Jimmie Louise Parton and her husband, Glen, and Mattie Roe Cook, all of Sevierville, TN; three brothers, Monroe Franklin and his wife, Wilma, Alonzo Franklin and his wife, Bertha, and Harley Franklin, all of Waynesville; four grandchildren, James Messer, and wife, Sherry, Regina Sheehan and husband, Michael, Luke Chambers, and Michael Williams; and two great grandchildren, Isaac and Shaya Sheehan. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2008 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Glen Parton, Reverend Greg Parton, and Reverend Tim Parton officiating. Burial will follow at Davis Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home and at other times, the children will be at their respective homes and also at her granddaughter's residence, 58 Summit Street, Waynesville.
