Vera Stamey

Canton, Vera Taylor Stamey, age 95, of the Cruso Community, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2013 at Silver Bluff Village. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Vinson Hestello and Josephine Owenby Taylor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert James Stamey, who died in 1981 and a sister, Mary Ruth Rogers. Vera was a charter and very active member of Cruso United Methodist Church which she helped build. She was involved in many areas of the church, including the United Methodist Women, teaching Sunday school, involvement in Vacation Bible School and many other ministries. Throughout her life, she was involved in the Home Demonstration Club and the Red Hat Society. Vera will be remembered for her kind, giving spirit and the love she showed toward others, especially to her family. She is survived by her son, Bobby Lee Stamey, Sr. and his wife, Marie, of Canton; a sister, Rena Hege of Winston-Salem, NC ; 11 grandchildren, Debbie Yantes ( Rick), Bobby Lee Stamey, Jr., James Kevin Stamey (Lisa), Heather Burrell (Thomas), Johnnie Lance (David), Nancy Cooper (David), Dale Stamey, Diana Wheeler, Virginia Goforth (Steve), Jerri Wilson (Brian) and Mac Moody (Sharon); 25 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2013 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Rennie Salata officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Sunday evening at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Arrowhead Cove and Silver Bluff Nursing Home for the special love and care given to Vera.
