Vera Warren

January 12, 1931 — June 5, 2011

Vera Cole Warren died on Sunday, June 5, 2011, at John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center in Asheville. She was born on a January day in 1931. For those who looked for guidance on how to enjoy life, she was a gift from God. She loved her fellow man, and she especially loved the small community of Canton which was so much a part of her character and spirit which she was bound to. Values mattered to her: honesty, integrity and love just to name a few. Those values combined to display, in every part of her life, on every day that she lived, an infectious spirit of happiness – a positive outlook on the life that God had blessed her with. She is survived by two children, Steve Warren and Susie Gibson, whom she loved greatly, and who aspired to return that love in full measure. She was married for over forty years to Ray Warren. Both loved their children, and for Susie and Steve, as a result, life has been exceedingly meaningful. She was blessed by a wonderful son-in-law, Doug Gibson, and a daughter-in-law, Fran Warren. She was blessed with brothers who looked after her: Bob Cole, Gene Cole, Dan Cole, Carroll Cole and two who predeceased her: Marshall Cole and Dee Cole. She loved her sister, Dean Watts, who predeceased her – they are now enjoying each other's company in heaven. She was the daughter of Ralph and Nell Cole of Canton – she did them proud. She has been blessed with five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. In their lives she saw a bright future and her ambition for them is that they will live by her example and do right by their fellow man. A devoted Christian, she was a member of Plains United Methodist Church in Canton – and she rejoiced in fellowship there for over seventy years. Great men will not speak her name. Books will not be written about her. However, her spirit will live on through the lives that she touched. You will know those persons when you meet them – they will share the quality of hope, a positive outlook, and will strive to bring joy to every moment. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home & Cremation Services with the Reverend Donnie Henson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, and in celebration of her life, the family requests donations be sent to CarePartners Hospice Memorial Fund, P. O. Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
