Vergie Payne

Cherokee – Vergie Elizabeth Payne, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at Autumn Care of Waynesville. A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late John and Jane Ester Sherrill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, D.J. Payne, who died in 1993; and three sons, Dempsey, Garland and Phillip Payne. Vergie was a homemaker. She is survived by a son, Paul Payne and his wife, Terri; three sisters; four grandchildren, Michael, Garland, Wayne Jr., Jason and Sheena Payne; and five great-grandchildren. No services are planned.
