Verna Crawford

Balsam-Verna Gentry Crawford, age 75, of 22 Woodfin Creek Road, died Saturday, September 20, 2003 at Harris Regional Hospital.

She had resided in Jackson County most of her life. She was a daughter of the late Mark and Nellie Woods Gentry. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Wilma Hewitt, who died in 1994. She was a member of Balsam Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Billy Crawford; one daughter, Karen Crawford McDaniel of Bessemer City, NC; two sisters, Vesti Woods of Candler and Roberta Norman of Balsam; two brothers, Mark Gentry, Jr. and Robert Gentry, both of Balsam; two granddaughters; two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 22, 2003 at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in the Willetts Community of Jackson County. The Reverend Frank Brooks will officiate. Burial will be at G. C. Crawford Family Cemetery in Balsam. The nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Monday, prior to the services, at the church. At other times, the family will be at the residence.

The pallbearers will be Carroll Gentry, Carroll Gentry, Jr., Roger Gentry, Curtis Gentry, Cecil Crawford, and David McDaniel.

Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville is in charge of arrangements.
