Verna Israel

Verna Britton Israel, age 85, of Canton, died Saturday, October 6, 2007, at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was the daughter of the late Jeff and Wilma Murray Britton. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Franklin Israel, Sr., who died in 1995. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Britton and a sister, Claudine Abel. Verna was a member of Canton Wesleyan Church and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her earlier years she enjoyed ceramics, knitting and was involved within the church. She is survived by two daughters, Kathi Israel McClure and her husband, Danny, of Clyde, and Linda Israel Bonham and her husband, Douglas, of St. Joseph, MI; a son, Thomas Franklin Israel, Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Cleveland, GA; 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 9, 2007, at the Chapel of Wells Funeral Home of Canton with the Reverend Randy Tingle and Reverend James Hart officiating. Burial will follow at Morning Star United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of Kathi McClure. Pallbearers will be her grandson, Kellen McClure and her great-grandsons, J.D. Busby and Zachary Weaver.
