Verna Sawyer

Verna Mae "Vicki" Sawyer, age 56, died on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Woodrow and Louise Creason Arrington. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother,, Harold Arrington, who died in 2009. Vicki received her associate degree at Southwestern in business administration and was a member of the women's auxiliary of the VFW Post #5202 and American Legion Post #47. She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Billy Lee Sawyer; three sons, Johnny Mac Hughes, Jr. of Clyde, Tanner and Trayvan Sawyer both of Waynesville; three daughters, Holly Billings, Candace Leal and her husband, Jay, and Honey Thomas all of Waynesville; one step-son, Leslie Sawyer of Waynesville; a step-daughter, Kandace Gaddis of Waynesville; one sister, Tina Matthews and her husband, William, of Morristown, TN; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 7, 2009 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Ricky Mason officiating. Burial will follow at Lower Panther Creek Cemetery at Fontana Lake in Graham County. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
