Verneta Parham

Verneta Sheffield Parham, age 71, passed away, on January 29, 2011, at Heartland Medical Hospital in Sebring, Florida. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Vernon and Maude Massie Sheffield. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Emily Sheffield. She was a member of the graduating class of 1957 of Bethel High School and attended Blanton's Business College. Verneta was a member of Long's United Methodist Church and she enjoyed camping, gardening, spending time with her family, and walking on the beach. She is survived by a her husband of 52 years, J.L. Parham; one son, Alan Parham and his wife, Stacie, of Knoxville, TN; one daughter, Sharon Vandegrift and her husband, John, of Spartanburg, SC; one sister, Emma Jean Singleton of Canton; and four grandchildren, Logan and Lucy Parham, Grace Vandegrift, and Tabitha Colter. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Gerald T. Denham officiating. Burial will follow at Long's Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service.
