Vernon Grimsley

Vernon Lee Grimsley, 91, of Asheville, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2015. He was born in Arlington, VA to the late Rollie Lee and Clara Belle Wise Grimsley. During WWII he was a ship welder in California. As a young man, Vernon loved vocabulary and learning large words, he watched his favorite football team, the Redskins, practice on his high school football field and was also a fan of the Atlanta Braves. Vernon loved to travel, especially on cruises. He was the Ping Pong Champion of Western NC, loved hiking and was very health conscious, once turning orange from too much carrot juice.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Leonard and Wendall Grimsley; sister, Lila Wilson; wives, Elsie and Edith and step-son, Stephen Worley.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Blanche Southerland Worley Grimsley; son, Steven (Trisha) Grimsley; step-children, Jerry Worley, Geraldine Burbank, Vicki Reese, Debbie Whiteside, Janie (Steve) Cooper and Carol Leopard; step-grandchildren, Stacey Worley, Shannon (Josh) Parris, Jerry Worley II, Lauren an Andrew Whiteside, David Burbank, Christopher Sheeds, Jim Rogers, Jr., Kelli (Steven) Forrest, Katrina (Ben Duman) Mohrmann, Jessica and Brianna Luther, Mattie and Mackenzie Worley, Amanda Leopard, Billy (Casey) Burbank V and Bron Burbank; step great grandchildren, Sailor and Madden Forrest, Kaydence Mohrmann, Elijah Craft, Tyler, Riley and Ayden Parris, Laura, Daniel and David Rogers.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, January 21st at the Erwin Hills Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastors Don Bankhead, Malcolm McCrillis and Ed Crouser with burial at 2:00PM at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Candler. The family will receive friends for one hour at the church, prior to the service.
