Vernon Mcghee

January 14, 1927 — September 2, 2014

Vernon Elbert McGhee, 87, of Asheville, passed away at home with his family, on Tuesday, September 2, 2014. A native of Asheville, he was the son of the late Columbus and Altha Penley McGhee. Vernon served in the US Army during World War II and was a member of Local Union 96 and Western NC Central Labor AFL-CIO Retiree Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Helen Hensley, Edith Barrett, Mildred Snelson, Arthur, Franklin and Joseph McGhee.
Vernon is survived by his siblings, Margaret (Troy) Collins, Faye Davis, Altha (Don) Langford, and Robert (Jean) McGhee, many nieces and nephews, beloved dog, Armani and companion/caregiver, Kathy Bryant.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00AM on Friday, September 5th in the Chapel of Faith of Moore Funeral Home at Forest Lawn, Candler with Chaplain Jeremiah Richards officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour before the service. Burial with Military Honors will follow at 12:00PM at the State Veterans Cemetery of WNC, Black Mountain.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Salvation Army, 204 Haywood Street, Asheville NC 28801.
