Waynesville, Vernon Burton "Beaver" Medford, age 79, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Memorial Mission Hospital. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Glenn Burton and Hazel Raines Medford. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Jewel Medford who died in 2007; his son Rodney Medford who died in 2011 and one brother Kenneth Medford. Beaver began his career as a ten year old curb hopper at Jim's Drive-In. As a man who chased his dreams, he opened G & B Motors with his father and later Medford Motors and Rentals. He owned and operated three restaurants, The Tarheel in Clyde and Beaver's Drive-In restaurant in Hazelwood and the Keg Room in Waynesville. Beaver served his country proudly in the United States Army and was a member of Allen's Creek Baptist Church. When Beaver wasn't working he enjoyed collecting and restoring classic cars. His greatest treasure this side of heaven, was his beautiful family. Beaver was a devoted husband, father and Pop. Beaver is survived by his wife of nine years, Ann Medford; one daughter, Sherri Heatherly, of Waynesville; one step-son, Alex McClure, of Clyde one sister, Betty Sutton, of Canton; sister-in-law, Carolyn Medford, of Waynesville; one brother, Leroy Medford, and his wife, Lavern, of Dothan, Alabama; three grandchildren, Nikki Hatton, Brittney Medford, and Brock Medford, and his wife, Melissa; step-granddaughter, Brandy McClure; one great-grandchild, Brody Fisher and one on the way; and a step-great-grandson, Wes. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Allens Creek Baptist Church with the Reverend Eddie Dietz and Tim Moody officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 12:00 p.m. at the church.
