Vertie Stamey

Canton-Vertie Mae Sutton Stamey, age 89 of Ferguson Street died Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was a daughter of the late Ervin and Addie Smith Sutton. She was also preceded in death by a sister Verndina Hayes, a brothers Waldo, Charlie, Norville and Jesse and grandson Adam Stamey. Mrs. Stamey was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, James Ray Stamey, three sons and their wives Jerry R. and Barbara Stamey, and Steve and Kathy Stamey, all of Canton, Michael and Becky Stamey of Orlando, FL, one sister, Mae Miney of Waynesville, one brother Eugene Sutton of Waynesville, 4 grandchildren; Andrew, Ronnie, Derrick and Eric Stamey and 2 great-granddaughters Jordan and Katie Stamey. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, November 19, 2004 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services. Reverend Dennis Ruff and Reverend Darrell Webb will officiate. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens in Clyde. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home prior to the service. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 21 Phillips Street, Canton, NC 28716.
