Viola Dean

Leicester – Viola Hawkins Dean, age 91, went home to be with the Lord, on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Aston Park Health Care Center. A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Mark Ervin and Jennieve Henson Hawkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Robert Dean; one sister, Barbara Ward; two infant sisters, Margaret and Eunice Hawkins; and one infant brother, William Hawkins. She retired from Kellwood Company as a seamstress and handmade all of her own clothing wardrobe. Viola was of the Missionary Baptist faith, served in different offices in the church and served as clerk of the Newfound Baptist Association and the Newfound Community Death Benefit Association. She will be remembered as being very caring, always placing others before herself. She is survived by a step-daughter, Rosa Carroll of Sneville, Georgia; a step-son, Kenneth Dean and his wife, Patsy, of Candler; two sisters, Lela Porche and Mary Lou Shook both of Leicester; a brother Jack Hawkins of Candler; several step grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2015 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Gene Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Serving as pallbearers will be Darrell and Derrick Ward, Phillip Hawkins, Franklin Porche, Kevin Shook, and Houston Towles.
