Violet Bramlett

December 5, 1925 — June 9, 2010

Violet Owen Bramlett, age 84, died June 9, 2010 at Chatuge Regional Nursing Home in Hiawassee, GA. A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Robert J. and Augusta Robinson Owen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Vaughn Bramlett, Jr; a daughter, Julia Carol Bramlett Jones; a sister, Joyce Owen Cathey; and three brothers, Earl, Bill, and Bruce Owen. After attending Western Carolina University, she worked in New Port News, VA for the War Department. She was married on March 6, 1946. When her children were older, she worked at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, for the Dean of Men. She was a member of Darrtown United Methodist Church in Darrtown, Ohio. Her hobbies included making quilts; she made over a hundred beautiful quilts over the years and gave them as gifts, creating woven baskets and woven rugs, which she also gave to family and friends. She loved gardening and certainly had a green thumb! Violet was active in PTA over the years, a scout leader; a Sunday school teacher and Vacation Bible school worker, and was a hospice volunteer for many years. She is survived by a daughter, Melinda Bramlett Joyner and her husband, Kenneth, of St. Pete Beach, FL and Hiawassee, GA; a son, Martin Owen Bramlett and his wife, Betty Jo, of Foster City, CA; a son-in-law, Richard Preston Jones of Tacoma, WA; a sister, Nancy Owen Ford; three sisters-in-law, Susie Bramlett Crisp, Norma Bramlett Tyson, and Anne Bramlett Mathews, all of Canton; a brother-in-law, Christopher Lewis Bramlett of Albermarle, NC; four grandchildren, Monica Miller and her husband, Mark, of Knoxville, TN, Michael Bramlett Miller and his wife, Amanda, of Dayton, Oh, children of Melinda Joyner; Sara Augusta Bramlett of San Francisco, CA, Margaret Bramlett Moore of Santa Clara, CA, children of Martin Owen Bramlett; three great-grandchildren, Katherine Marie Redemer, Michael Bramlett Miller, Jr., and Jack Vincent Miller. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Plains United Methodist Church in Canton with the Reverend Jimmy McAdams officiating. Inurnment will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Newfound Road. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Wells Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Canton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association, 31 College Place, Suite D320, Western Carolina Chapter, Asheville, NC 28801.
