Virginia Johnson

"In Loving Memory" Canton – Virginia Matthews Johnson, age 98, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2015 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native of Granville County, she was a daughter of the late Luther and Bessie Medlin Matthews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters. Virginia had lived most of her life in Orlando, Florida but resided in Haywood County for the last seven years. She was a 50 year member of College Park Baptist Church in Orlando and a member of Crestview Baptist Church in Canton. Virginia enjoyed working outdoors in her garden and you could always find it meticulously maintained. She was an avid traveler, having visited the Holy Land, Hawaii twice, Germany and a host of other locations around the United States. She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Winton and Paula Hall, both of Canton; two sisters, Estelle Timbes of Clyde and Addie Graves of Essex, Maryland; five grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Super Grandma", Sharon Atherton, Karen Flanders, Curt, Chris, and Chad Hall; seven great-grandchildren, Paige and Matthew Atherton, Morgan, Madison, Kayla, Tyler, and Trevor Hall; one great-great-granddaughter, Emma Grace; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Crestview Baptist Church with the Reverend Dan Page and Reverend Ned Webb officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 8, 2015 in the Chapel of Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home in Apopka, Florida. Burial will follow at Edgewood/Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
