Virginia Layman

Virginia Ivey Layman, age 79, passed away on Friday, June 27, 2014 at Mission Hospitals – St. Joseph Campus. She was the daughter of the late Cager Smith and Hermie Duckette Ivey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Layman, Jr. who died May 31, 2007; a son, Michael Douglas Layman who died in 2006; two sisters, Hazel and Jeanette; four brothers, Paul, Willis, Everette, and Virgil; and a great-grandson, Tye Blanton. She also enjoyed her sewing class known as the Weavers and Sunday dinners with her family. She is survived by two sons, Robert "Bobby" Layman and Rick Layman both of Waynesville; a sister, Polly Williams and her husband, Roland, of South Carolina; three grandchildren, Rob Layman, Michaela Lowe and her husband, Nathan, and Ryan Layman and his wife, Shea; and six great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Bethel Baptist Church followed by a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tye Blanton Foundation, 81 Sterling Drive, Canton, NC 28716.
