Lake Junaluska, Virginia Baker Medford, age 91, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Haywood Lodge.
A native of Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late William and Ruby Agee Baker and was preceded in death by her husband, Billy B. Medford, who died in 1991. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Sue Baker; three brothers, Robert, Larry, and Shirrell Baker; and her son-in-law, Ronald Dale Rathbone.
Virginia retired from Haywood County Hospital as a supervisor with over 30 years of service. She volunteered at the auxiliary at the hospital, the Open Door, and many other organizations within the community. She was a proud member of Long’s Chapel United Methodist Church and enjoyed being involved in church activities.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Doris Medford Rathbone, of Clyde; her son, Gerald Medford, and his wife, Terri, of Simpsonville, SC; three brothers, A.J., Ralph, and Harold Wayne Baker; four grandchildren, Dawn Rathbone Jones (Johnny), Julie Rathbone Newland (Allen), Bryan Rathbone (Trisa), and Travis Medford (Cara); six great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, January 13, 2020 at Long’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend John Boggs officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations to be made to Long’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 175 Old Clyde Road, Waynesville, NC 28785.
The care of Mrs. Medford has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes.
