Virginia Louise Medford "Ginnie" Sharpe, age 79, of 23 Maple Street went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 5, 2010. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late D. K. and Helen Reil Medford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, Devere "Sonny", Millard, and David Medford. Virginia graduated from Clyde High School in 1949 and worked for a very short time at the Clyde Post Office. She lovingly devoted over 26 years caring for her mother who was bedridden from a stroke. She was a member of Clyde Central United Methodist Church and of the United Methodist Women. She was also a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #188 in Clyde, the Clyde Woman's Club, and the Clyde Fire Bells. She is survived by her husband of 57 years Vernon "Bud" Sharpe; one nephew, Keith Medford and wife, Janet, of Canton; a niece, Helen Louise Hudgins and husband, Derrell, of Hendersonville; a sister-in-law, Maggie Jane Medford Creasman of Canton; and five great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Randall Tingle and the Reverend James Hart officiating. Lonnie Hipps will be the soloist. Members of the United Methodist Men will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence. Memorials may be made to Clyde Central United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 8, Clyde, NC 28721 or to a charity of one's choice.
