Virginia Wagoner

May 15, 1927 — March 8, 2021

Asheville

Virginia Autry Wagoner, 93, of Asheville passed away on Monday, March 8, 2021 at the Western NC Baptist Home.

Born in High Point, NC, Virginia was the only daughter in a family of six boys of the late Bessie Glidewell Autry and Hardy R. Autry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Grey Wagoner and her granddaughter, Erica Bulla Roark.

After marrying her husband, Raymond G. Wagoner in 1945, they moved to Clinton, NC and opened Wagoner’s Upholstery Shop.  Virginia worked with her husband in sales and bookkeeping while raising their four children. In 1962, they moved their family and business to Asheville, NC where they stayed for the next thirty years until the passing of her husband.

Virginia loved gardening and interior design. She was active in her children’s’ school organizations and spent many hours sewing clothes and quilts for all four of her children.

After Raymond passed away, she spent her time visiting with each of her children’s family and their children. Family and her love for the Lord were the most important things to Virginia. The kids called her Mamaw and appreciated her fun and loving spirit.

Virginia spent the last four years of her life at the Western North Carolina Baptist home where she made many friends with the other residents and staff who were so loving and kind.

She is survived by her children, Gloria Patton (David), Gary Wagoner (Ann), Polly Wagoner Ballard and Deborah Bulla (Wesley); grandchildren, Jeff Patton, Gray Artus (Christy), Gerald Patton (Tina), Sherry Patton, Angie Artus Cooke, Suzi Suddreth (Josh), Todd Wagoner (Courtney), Marcie Bulla, Gray Bulla and Lani Roark; 21 great-grandchildren and 12 great great-grandchildren. She was loved deeply by her family and will be greatly missed.

The care of Mrs. Wagoner has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Candler.
