Vivian Emma Haugen Burress, 84, of Asheboro, formerly of Fayetteville, died Saturday, January 16, 2021, at Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro.
There will be a private graveside service on Saturday, January 30, 2021, at Fulbright Cemetery, Waynesville, NC, and a local memorial service will be held at a later date.
Vivian was born on November 2, 1936, in Polk County, MN, to the late Knute Haugen and Elsie Olson Haugen. She graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in Grand Forks, ND, and earned an Associates degree in Business from Fayetteville Technical Community College.
Vivian was dedicated to education, working for the Cumberland County Public School System as a Teacher Assistant for 20 years. She loved her career as a Teacher Assistant and was active in the professional organization, The North Carolina Association of Teacher Assistants, serving as State President from 1993 - 1995.
Vivian’s greatest passion was singing in church; from leading the choir at her church in Grand Forks as a young lady to 50+ years of singing in church choirs in Fayetteville, at Gethsemane Baptist, Eutaw Heights Baptist, and most recently, LaFayette Baptist Church. She instilled this love of music in all her children.
Vivian was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, a devoted wife, and a loving mother. Her presence will be deeply missed but her family remains hopeful in the promise that they will be with her again in Heaven.
She is survived by her husband, Henry S. Burress of the home; daughter, Cathy Hinek and her husband Arjay of Raleigh; sons, Ron Burress and wife Karen of Randleman, Tim Burress and wife Heather of Greensboro; sisters, Bernice Blaisdell of Winston-Salem, Marilyn Henderson of Edmond, OK; brother, Dennis Haugen and wife Rita of Edmond, OK; grandchildren, Jeremy Burress and wife Stephanie of Shelby, NC, Megan Allred and husband Rick of Hampstead, NC, Capt. Joshua Burress, USAF and wife Chloe of Warrensburg, MO, Brennan and Cameron Burress, of Greensboro, Cecelia Tynan and husband William of Colorado Springs, CO; and six great grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Fulbright Cemetery.
