Vivian Smathers

Canton- Vivian Kathleen Henson Smathers- age 84 of Allen Farm Road died Friday, December 08, 2006 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. She was a native and life-long resident of Haywood County and a daughter of the late Arthur and Dovie Cook Henson and wife of the late Howard Smathers who died in 2005. Bill was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be missed by all. She is survived by one daughter, Donna S. Fortney and her husband, Kim, of Canton; two sons, Butch Smathers and his wife, Betty, and Mike A. Smathers and his wife, Carolyn, all of Canton; six grandchildren, Shannon and Jeff Smathers, Jonathan Fortney, Kimi Larkin and her husband, Joe, Heath Smathers and his wife, Vicki, and Kalam Fortney and his wife, Cleta, and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 11, 2006 at Spring Hill Baptist Church with Reverend W.O. "Bill" Henson, Reverend Dr. Roy Kilby, and Reverend Brad Joyner officiating. Burial will follow in Longs Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. At other times, the family will be at the home of Donna and Kim Fortney. Memorials may be made to Spring Hill Baptist Church, 1918 Murray Road, Canton, NC 28716.
