Vonah Bumgarner

Candler–Vonah Lunsford Bumgarner, loving mother and grandmother, age 93, died Thursday, January 17, 2008 at John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center in Asheville. She was a native of Cherokee County and a daughter of the late Lawson and Dorcas Lovingood Lunsford. Vonah was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Bumgarner, who died in 1991; a son, Charles Doyle Bumgarner; a brother, Loy Lunsford, and a daughter-in-law, Sue Webb Bumgarner. She was a member of Hominy Baptist Church which she attended with great joy and devotion for more than 50 years. She is survived by a daughter, Kay Robinson and her husband, Mike, of Candler; a son, Jerry Bumgarner of Candler; one sister, Nancy Lunsford of Murphy; one brother, John Lunsford of Murphy; three grandchildren, Ronda Shook and her husband, Johnny, of Ocean Isle, NC, Todd Robinson and his wife, Amy, of Charleston, SC and Wil Robinson of Candler; three great-granddaughters, Heather and Katie Shook and Daphne Robinson; special caregiver, Gayle Penland and "adopted" grandchildren, The Weatherman Family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 20, 2008 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Joe Yelton officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Hominy Baptist Church, 135 Candler School Road, Candler, NC 28715. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of the John F. Keever Solace Center, whose loving hands guided her into God's hands.
