Wade Mcgaha

Balsam-Wade N. McGaha, age 72, died Friday, May 18, 2007 at Canton Christian Convalescent Center after a lengthy illness. He was the son of the late Burl and Ethel McGaha and was also preceded in death by two sisters, Zeomia Rich and Mary Ann Mack and two brothers, Richard and Gene McGaha and two grandchildren, Christopher and Brian McGaha. Being a lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was born and lived his early life in Cataloochee Valley. Wade was employed by the propane gas industry for 42 years as a service tech and was a member of Hazelwood Baptist Church. He was a volunteer at Little Cataloochee Park, an avid fisherman, loved Tuscola football and volunteered on the referee chain team for 40 years and was also a greeter at Big and Little Cataloochee Reunions. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Cora Lee; two sons, Dwayne McGaha and his wife, Betty Jean of Canton and Darryle McGaha and his wife, Gail of Clyde; a step-daughter, Brenda Beck and her husband, Andy of Sylva; a step-son, Reverend Rickey Taylor and his wife, Joan of Bushnell, FL; four sisters, Hazel Mack of Waynesville, Ruth Rich of Clyde, Lucille Garland of Florida and Maxine Wyatt of Waynesville; one brother, Clay McGaha of Waynesville; three grandchildren, Kristin, Brandon and Mandi McGaha and one great-grandchild, Candice Cheyenne Foxx. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 21, 2007 at Hazelwood Baptist Church with Reverend Don Letzring and Reverend Rickey Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Brandon McGaha, Jason Beck, Nathan Beck, Andy Beck, Tod Taylor, Kevin Jenkins and Earl Rich. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends of the Great Smoky Mountain Park, 160 S. Main Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.
