Walker Earl Lowe

In the early morning of June 19, Walker Earl Lowe went home to be with the Lord. He was 89 years old. Earl was born to Jesse Gobel and Flora Elizabeth Arrington Lowe on July 15, 1934, in the Fines Creek Community, and lived in Haywood County his entire life. He loved these mountains.

Earl retired from Dayco after 31 years, and was proud to be the oldest man in the Sutton Town community. He was a man of strong faith who knew the Bible inside and out and could teach it with unmatched conviction. He loved his Cove Creek Baptist Church family and community and while he was still able to walk he attended church whenever the doors were open. He was a deacon, often sang in church, and was quick to help anyone in need. Earl was a storyteller with most of the topics being fly fishing in Cataloochee (and he was really good at it), mowing his yard (he was good at that too), eating a good watermelon, and how he would coach the Atlanta Braves and Tarheel Basketball. He also could talk for hours about his wonderful family, and most of all his wife, Catherine. He had a nickname for everyone, and he was the strongest man you will ever meet. There will never be anyone like Earl Lowe - our husband, daddy, and Paw.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, as well as brothers Robert, Clarence (Buddy), Jack, and Billy Joe Lowe, and sisters Edith Beasley, Mildred Toy, and Baby Polly Anna.

Left to cherish his memory are his precious wife, Catherine; son Mike Lowe (Angie) of Waynesville; daughter Beth Emerson (Russ) of Fort Worth, TX; grandson Jesse Lowe (Stephanie) of Waynesville; granddaughter Annaka Michael (Dillon) of Candler; great grandchildren Colt, Tess, Carson, Mollie, and Quin; brother Frank Lowe of Waynesville; his most special niece, Sandy Horton of Waynesville; and so many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who he dearly loved.

A Memorial Service to honor Earl’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2024 in the Chapel of Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville with Reverend Isaac Brooks and Reverend Billy Ferguson officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

The care of Mr. Lowe has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville and an online memorial register is available at “Obituaries” at www.wellsfuneralhome.com
