Walter Carroll Burress, a man of many talents and roles, has left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.  Born in Cruso, North Carolina, on June 9, 1931, Carroll's journey through life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his passions and his loved ones.  A friend, mentor, stand in Pappaw, brother, and father to so many.  A man of unwavering integrity.
 
Carroll's career was a testament to his versatility and skill. A natural engineer, farmer, entrepreneur, and excellent welder, he approached every endeavor with a spirit of creativity and determination.  His work ethic and ingenuity set him apart in all his pursuits.
 
In addition to his professional achievements, Carroll proudly served in the United States Army, demonstrating his commitment to serving his country with honor and integrity.
 
Later in life, Carroll found a new passion in artistry, showcasing yet another dimension of his boundless creativity.  His proudest accomplishments included this late-life artistic exploration which brought joy and beauty to those around him.
 
Carroll passed away on June 1, 2024 at his home in Cruso, the place he called home for his entire life.  His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
 
Carroll was preceded in death by several beloved family members: his parents, Walter and Allie O'Neil Burress; his loving wife, Eva Mae Reece Burress; two sons, Roger and Randy Burress; his Daughter-In-Law, Melinda Baldwin Burress; Grandson Clint Burress; and a brother Johnny Burress.
 
In this time of mourning, Carroll is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David Neal and Cecilia Burress of Balsam; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and several beloved nieces and nephews.  Their grief is shared by all those who were touched by Carroll's kindness, wisdom, and warmth.

 

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 10, 2024 at East Fork Baptist Church with Reverend Mark Tice and Reverend Greg Cullen officiating.   Burial will follow at New Cruso Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. 
 
 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to East Fork Baptist Church, 13175 Cruso Road, Canton, NC  28716.
