Walter "Ed" Nash, of Maggie Valley, NC and Marathon, Florida passed away August 30, 2011 at the age of 91. He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Thelma E. Nash. Walter was an executive with the Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn, Michigan for 32 years. His last position was manager, personnel and organization, Latin America and Asia-Pacific Group. He retired in 1974 and relocated to Maggie Valley Country Club Estates. He traveled the world as well as giving back to the community. Walter served on the board of the Salvation Army, Haywood County Arts Council, Friends of the Library, and solicited funds for the United Way, Maggie Valley Fire Department, Haywood Regional Medical Center, and other organizations. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville for many years. He spent winters in the Florida Keys with his family, enjoying the sun, warm ocean breezes, and fishing in a laid back atmosphere. Walter is survived by his three children and their spouses, Doug and Diane Nash, Dan and Diane B. Nash, Darlene and Ron Ebanks; his grandchildren and their spouses, Dawn and Kent Pylant, Jeff and Sheila Nash, and Noelle Smith; his great-grandchildren, Trent Nash, Kale and Lainey Pylant and Violet and Emmeline Smith. He is also survived by his loving and devoted companion of the last three years, Melba Scotford. "Ed" had the twinkle in his eye until the end and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
