WALTER F. OVERMAN

Waynesville-Walter Franklin Overman, age 85, formerly of Haywood County, died Sunday, March 9, 2003 in Tallahassee, Florida.

A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Thomas and Hester Wines Overman. He was also preceded in death by a son, Thomas Dewayne Overman. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict and was retired from the US Forestry Service.

He is survived by two daughters, Cathy Overman Eaker and Patricia Ann Overman of Tallahassee, Florida; a son, Lynn M. Overman, Sr. of Clyde; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2003 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Chaplain David Wagner officiating. Burial will follow at Upper Crabtree Cemetery with military gravesite rites performed by VFW Post 5202 and American Legion Post 47. Pallbearers will be Jack and Larry Kaufman, Roland Zepata, and Doyle Sutton. The family will receive friends from 12:00 - 2:00 prior to the service at the funeral home.
