Waynesville-Walter A. Pinner, age 72, of 43 Leisure Lane, died Saturday, October 2, 2004 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Haywood County and was the son of the late Walter Baxter and Mae Inman Pinner. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Nelson Pinner, who died in 2001, and by a brother, Roy V. Inman. He was a security guard with Ghost Town in Maggie Valley. He was a US Marine Corporal having served during the Korean conflict and he received the purple heart with a gold star. He was a member of DAV (Disabled American Veterans) and also enjoyed fishing. He is survived by his daughter, Janet Patterson and her husband, Phillip of Wilmington, NC; his son, James L. Messer and his wife, Joan of Asheville; two sisters, Jo Alexander of Waynesville, and Pat DeHart, of Bryson City; three brothers, Rubin, Riley, and Troy Inman, all of Waynesville; and two granddaughters, Jennifer and Amy Phillips, both of Wilmington, NC. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes and Cremation Services. Burial will follow Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by the VFW Post 5202 and the American Legion Post 47. The nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday, October 4, 2004 at the funeral home.
