Walter Everett Sutton, age 85, died Friday, May 1, 2009, at Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Cornelius and Burdine Messer Sutton. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Bramlett Sutton, who died in 2003; an infant son, Walter Everett Sutton, Jr.; five sisters, Arletha Watts, Elsie Hyatt, Ollie Poe, Effie Hall, and Bonnie Frady; and a brother, Larry Sutton. He was a member of Canton Wesleyan Church. Everett was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II. Everett loved the outdoors especially hunting and fishing. He enjoyed traveling the country with his wife and family. Everett was a generous man always giving to charities and helping to fill needs. He is survived by a son, Johnny Fain Sutton and his wife, Deanna, of Canton; a sister, Geneva Hall of Canton; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2009, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Perry Hines officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road with military graveside rites. The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
