Walter Wilson

Candler-Walter Lee Wilson-87 of 128 Luther Road, died Sunday, November 10, 2002 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

He was a native of Spartanburg, SC but had lived most of his life in Buncombe County. He was the son of the late Russell and Lula Taylor Wilson and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rita Wilson Hyams who died in 1975. He retired with the State of North Carolina in maintenance and was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday school teacher for the Walt Wilson Sunday school Class for over 40 years. He loved farming and cattle.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Susie Burton Wilson, one daughter, Lillian Johnson and her husband, Barry of Horseshoe, one son, Rex Wilson and his wife, Ruby of Candler, one sister, Dorothy Coble of Spartanburg, SC, 3 grandsons, 1 great-granddaughter to be born in January 2003, 2 step-great-grandchildren and 3 step-great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes with Reverend Phillip Hurst officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
