Wanda Raines

Waynesville, Wanda L. Raines, age 86, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2015 at Smoky Mountain Healthcare & Rehab. Center. A native of Catawba County, North Carolina, she was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Philmore Raines; a daughter, Phyllis Dunaway; two sisters and six brothers. Wanda was a fabulous cook specializing in apple pies and chicken and dumplings. She enjoyed the thrill of a scary movie, canning, quilting and reading westerns. Wanda was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and will be greatly missed. She was of the Baptist faith. She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Hannah and her husband, Bruce, of Waynesville and Juanita Chilcutt and her husband, Steven, of Roseville, Michigan; a sister, Francis Skidmore of Candler; seven grandchildren, Lisa Smathers, Teresa Prusia, Sherry Coleman, Tina Hesketh, Ralph Clifton, Sonny Dunaway and Melissa Olinger; several great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a close friend and nephew, Jerry Raines as well as several other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 9, 2015 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 1:45 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
