Wanda Sue Bryson West, passed away peacefully in Haywood County, NC on January 5, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on May 31, 1945, in Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Pauline Smith Bryson. Wanda lived a life marked by her genuine love for people and an innate ability to socialize, a trait that earned her the affectionate nickname "Gabby."
Throughout her career, Wanda dedicated many years to serving others in her community as a waitress at Boyd's Drive Inn and Ammons, where her warmth and friendliness left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She cherished the connections she made during this time, always greeting regulars with a smile and kindness that brightened their day.
Wanda was a woman of many interests. She enjoyed traveling the NASCAR circuit with her loving husband, James "Jimmy" W. West, Jr., who preceded her in death in 2020. Their shared adventures were filled with joy and laughter, and they created memories that will be cherished by their family. In addition to traveling, Wanda had a passion for shopping, often finding delight in discovering treasures that would bring happiness to her family and friends.
Wanda is survived by her daughter, Jamie West Culbreth; her son, Gregory Wallace West (Stefanie); her sister, Vicki Penny; and her three beloved grandchildren, Hannah Culbreth Hincy (Andru), Emily West, and Abigail West. She was also the proud great-grandmother of little Kya Hincy, who brought her immense joy.
The community is invited to pay their respects and celebrate Wanda's life on January 8, 2025, at Balsam Missionary Baptist Church located at 105 Heavenly Rd, Sylva, NC 28779. Visitation will begin at 12:45 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be Pastor Lee Brooks and Rev. Billy Ferguson. Interment will follow at Balsam Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
Wanda Sue West will be remembered not only for her engaging personality but also for the love she shared with her family and friends, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and connection that will continue to resonate within the hearts of all who knew her.
The care of Ms. Wood has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
