Wayne Shumolis

Wayne Relis Shumolis, age 64, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at Mission Hospitals – Memorial Campus. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of Lucile Henderson Shumolis and the late George Wayne Shumolis. He retired from Haywood County Schools as a biology teacher. He was a 1968 graduate of Pisgah High School, Brevard College, and Appalachain State University. Wayne loved farming, having grown tomatoes for 30 years. His personal interests included hunting and fishing on Sunburst along with his son, Marc, and his brother, Stan. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Anna Shumolis Conn and her husband, Taylor, of Swannanoa; a son, Marc Wayne Shumolis and his wife, Leigh Ann Reece, of Canton; a brother, Stan Shumolis of Canton; two grandchildren, Sydney Ann Shumolis and Nathan Reece Shumolis; a niece, Tracy Russell; a great-niece, Cassidy Russell; and a great-nephew, Clayton Russell. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. Roy Kilby officiating.
