Weldon Francis "Bud" Brooks, age 78, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, January 8, 2007. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and the son of the late Fletcher O'Brian and Mary Esther Hyde Brooks. He retired from Champion International with 38 years of service and was a member of Dutch Cove Baptist Church. Bud was a member of the Gideon's, a church deacon, a Sunday School teacher, past chairman of the Board of Directors for Center Pigeon Fire Department, served on the mill council, and was a past advisor with Boy Scout Troop 316. He was a United States Navy veteran. Bud was a man with a loving heart; he was always willing to help anyone, friend or stranger. The love of his life was his granddaughters. In addition to his wife of 47 years, Ruby Yates Brooks, he is survived by four sons, Mike Wood and his wife, Donna, Weldon Steven Brooks and his wife, Patricia "Sissy", Alan Brooks and his wife, Mary, and Jeff Brooks all of Canton; two foster children, James and Janice Walker; two sisters, Florence Caldwell of Canton and Henrietta Golloher of TN; and six grandchildren. A celebration of Bud's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2007, at the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Ed Lowder and Reverend Dennis Ruff officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Gideons International, P. O.
