Wilburn Brookshire

Waynesville, Wilburn Francis Brookshire, age 78, of Ratcliffe Cove, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2013. A native of Buncombe County, Wilburn was born and raised on Deaverview Road in Asheville. He was the son of the late William Arthur and Augusta Henson Brookshire. Wilburn retired from Dayco Corporation. He loved bluegrass music, fishing, boating, camping and ice cream. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doris Lawing Brookshire; his children, Beth Turner (Kermit), of Clyde, Brenda Mehaffey (Steve), of Waynesville, Vickey Lanning (Jim), of Waynesville, Greg Brookshire, of Waynesville, Carol Brookshire, of Asheville and Jennifer Mabry (Jason) of Waynesville; two brothers, Earl Brookshire of Asheville and Cliff Brookshire of Brevard; eight grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; and his sidekick Po. Private funeral services were held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church, 98 Elizabeth Chapel Road, Waynesville, NC 28786.
