Waynesville, Wilena May Brown Phillips, age 93, of Crystal Lane, passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Haywood House. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Harley E. and Nora Messer Clark. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Fletcher Brown, who died in 1982 and Fred Phillips, who died in 1987; a step-son, Robert "Bob" Brown; a brother, James Clark; three sisters, Hilda Bishop, Eula Setzer and Lillian Sue Kuzi; and a granddaughter, Allison Taylor. Wilena retired from Lake Junaluska Assembly and was a member of Calvary Road Baptist Church. Wilena simply enjoyed life, loving all her family, working in her flowers, and traveling to Gatlinburg in the Fall. She is survived by two sons, Alvin Jerome "A. J." Brown (Betty) of Waynesville and Robert Lee "R. L." Brown (Hiawatha) of Canton; a step-daughter, June Ferguson and her husband, Reeves, of Clyde; three step-sons, Harlen E. "Buster" Brown (Marie) of Newport News, Virginia, Frank D, Brown (Lela) of Newport, Tennessee, and Johnny Mack Brown (Barbara) of Pennsgrove, New Jersey; two grandchildren, Jeremy and Dawn Brown; two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Madyson; and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Calvary Road Baptist Church with Reverend John H. Swanger, III and Reverend J.D. Grant officiating. Burial will follow at Brown Family Cemetery, Hurricane Creek. The family will receive friends from 11:30 until 1:00 prior to services at the church.
