Wiley Griffin

June 26, 1918 — May 30, 2013

Wiley Roger Griffin, age 94, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. He has fought the good fight, he has finished the race, he has kept the faith. Peace at last surrounds him, no more pain to bear. He is in the arms of Jesus and will forever be in his care. A native of Macon County, he was the son of the late John and Nancy Pickens Griffin. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Maude Gasaway Griffin who died July 5, 2012; two brothers, Harley and Deverow Griffin; three half-brothers, Lawson, Alfred and Arthur Griffin; two sisters, Ruby Wood and Nora Christopher; and a step brother and sister, Wade Pickens and Dessie Tippit. He retired from American Enka with 30 years of service and was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II. Wiley was a dedicated member of Candler Hill Street Church of God where he served on the deacon board and was past superintendent. Wiley was a true "prayer warrior" always in prayer for his family and friends. He will be remembered for his devotion to his Christian faith, strength in character, and deep love for his family. He is survived by a daughter, Shelby J. White; a son, Charles E. Griffin all of Candler; five grandchildren and spouses, Pamela and Brian Burns of Hickory, Kimberly and Eddie Hendricks of Canton, Allen and Darlene Griffin of Candler, Greg and Sallie Tipton of Oteen, and Eddie Griffin of Asheville; six great-grandchildren, Nichole Burns, Kristen Morrison and her husband, Andy, Mason and Peyton Griffin, and Levi and Toby Hendricks; three step great-grandchildren, Mary Olsen and Jasmine and Jason Jones; two step great-great grandchildren, Tristan and Amanda Olsen; a sister, Willie Mae Roper of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, June 3, 2013 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Charlie Sams officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:45 until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service.
