Wiley Horace (Skip) Haynes, age 72, passed away on Friday, December 3, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family. A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late W. V. Haynes, Jr. and Ruth Anderson Haynes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joy Lee Haynes; a brother, Levern Reeves Haynes; and a grandson, Keith Donaldson. Skip retired in 1993 from Champion International with 39 years of service and was a member of Clyde First Baptist Church. He was a member of the State Champion Football Team of Canton High School in 1956 which was the first in Western North Carolina to make it as state champions. Skip also played for the University of North Carolina. He loved camping, fishing, and tying his own flies. He is survived by a daughter, Kathi Donaldson and her husband, Dwight, of East Flat Rock; a special loving companion, Nina Haynes of Clyde; one step-daughter, Dianne Witter of Houston, TX; one step-son, Clark Witter of Winder, GA; one brother, Doug Haynes and his wife, Belinda, of Raleigh; one grandson, Kelly Donaldson and his wife, April, of Cullowhee; two step-grandchildren, Wesley and Taylor; special buddies, Aubrey Haynes, Taylor and Dalton Owenby; and one niece and nephew, Jim and Nancy of Raleigh. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 6, 2010 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home & Cremation Services with the Reverend Dr. T. David Phillips and the Reverend James Parham officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
