Mint Hill – Wilhelmina (Willie) Sophia Frederika Vander Kaaden Rhodarmer passed into eternity on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Cadence Senior Living of Mint Hill, NC.
Willie was a native of Buncombe County and the daughter of the late Gerrit Vander Kaaden and Alida Hommel Vander Kaaden. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Baxter Rhodarmer. Willie graduated from Saint Genevieve of the Pines in Asheville, NC and Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, OK. Career highlights include, teaching middle and high school students, serving on SC’s Foster Care Review Board, and Financial Controller for Fontana Village in NC. In retirement, she was an active volunteer with Folkmoot. She was a master knitter and later traded needles for Sudoku books.
She is survived by her husband (Bill) William Joe Rhodarmer of 67 years; daughter, Beth Mayer (Kurt) of Columbia, SC; son, Frank Rhodarmer (Kim) of Mint Hill, NC; daughter-in-law, Michele Rhodarmer of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Bryan Mayer (Lynn) of Pasadena, CA, Michael Mayer (Allison) of Charlotte, NC, Lauren Benton (Joe) of Cayce, SC, Ashley Popa (Chris) of Richmond, TX, and Brittany Ruechel (Justin) of Davidson, NC; great-grandchildren, Brayden and Kaya Mayer, Ainsley and Piper Mayer, Owen Popa, Anna and Ethan Ruechel.
A celebration of life service will be held outdoors at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Morning Star United Methodist Church in Canton with the Reverend Bryan Mayer and Reverend Zach Christy officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 p.m. Masks and social distancing will be observed.
