Willard Best

Clyde-Willard Pinkney Best, age 89, of Silvers Cove Road, passed away on Monday, February 6, 2006 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late William Crawford Best, Sr. and Essie Hill Best. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Edith Smart Best, who passed away in 2005; five brothers, Joe, Earl, Ernest, Max, and William Crawford Best, Jr.; and two sisters, Eva B. Ferguson and Denise Best. Willard was a self-employed dairy farmer and a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church. He is survived by one daughter Doris West and her husband, Jimmy, of Clyde; one son, James Autry Best and his wife, Betty Jo of Clyde; three sisters, Hilda Gibson of Canton, Edna Lentz and her husband, Tommy, of Waynesville, and Louise McSwain and her husband, Devon, of Mooresville, NC; two brothers, Billy Best and his wife, Pat, and Ken Best and his wife, Lucy, all of Clyde; two grandchildren, Martin Clark and his wife, Marianne, of Bloomington, IN, Kathie Carter and her husband, Lynwood, of Weaverville, one step-granddaughter, Diane Perez, three great-grandchildren; Ashley Clark, Brittany Clark and Joe McGimsey and one step- great-granddaughter Amanda Carter. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2006 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Ensley, Reverend Kitty Crain and Reverend Gene King officiating. Burial will follow at Dawn Memory Garden. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Don and Tim Smart, Ray McElroy, Michael and Timmy Lentz, Joe McGimsey, Darryll Cagle, Tony McClure, and Roger Ferguson.
