Willard Lloyd Mashburn, age 96, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at St. Andrews Assisted Living Center in Concord, NC. Willard, a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County was a son of the late Issac and Mary Kilpatrick Mashburn. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Verna Helen Keylon Mashburn who died September 26, 2014; two brothers, Clifton and Joseph Mashburn; and three sisters, Lola Cook, Ruth Sizemore and Naomi Parker. Willard was a graduate of Canton High School and retired as a stock engineer at Champion International Paper with 45 years of dedicated service. A member of The Carolina Dahlia Society and Rhododendron Society; he was well known for his beautiful flower gardens of azaleas, rhododendrons and prize winning dahlias. He was a United States Army Veteran serving during World War II and a devoted lifetime member of Calvary Baptist Church. He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn M. Guess and her husband, Jim, of Concord, NC; two grandsons, M. Brent Jordan and his wife, Mary, of Concord and Aaron W. Jordan and his wife, Cherie, of Goldsboro, NC; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 15, 2014 in the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Darrell Webb officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:45 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens.
