William Birchfield

Waynesville, William "Billy" Odell Birchfield, age 67, of the Jonathan Creek community, passed away Friday, August 26, 2011 at Memorial Mission Hospital. A native of Haywood County, he was a former resident of Ashdown, Arkansas for 21 years. He was the son of the late Clyde Odell Birchfield and Lessie Marie Brooks Birchfield. Billy was also preceded in death by a sister Betty Sue Earley and a brother Delmas Birchfield. He retired in 1998 from Georgia-Pacific in Ashdown, Arkansas as a tow motor operator with 21 years of service. Billy loved the outdoors, especially camping, fishing and golfing and was of the Baptist faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam era from 1962-1964. He is survived by one daughter, Teresa Lynn Dills and her husband Keith of Franklin, NC; two sisters, Patricia B. Chafin and her husband Robert Miles Chafin, Jr. of Ashdown, AR; Greta B. Tyler of Nashville, AR and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2011 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Homes. Reverend Kenneth Lance will officiate. Burial will follow at Breedlove Cemetery in Robbinsville. Serving as pallbearers will be Frank Birchfield, Earl Birchfield, Bill Shook and David Taylor. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
