William Boone

William E. "Bill" Boone, age 89, died on Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at MedWest-Haywood Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Buncombe County but had resided in Haywood County most of his life and was the son of the late Harry E. and Lydia Bagwell Boone. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Clark Boone, who died in 2008; two sisters, Dorothy Dolan and Sarah Brown; and three brothers, Harry D., John N., and Leonard O. Boone. He retired from Champion International with 43 years of service. Bill was an active member of Beaverdam United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities. Bill was affectionately known as "Sugar Daddy" at his church for his years of raising funds to purchase sugar for Haywood Christian Ministries. He will always be remembered for his wit and humor and was known as a "true character". Bill loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and spending his time in "God's Country" at Nantahala Lake. He is survived by two sons, William David Boone and his wife, Catherine, of Canton and Jerry David Boone and his wife, Jeannene, of Waynesville; a daughter, Linda B. Worley and her husband, Harvey, of Canton; three sisters, Mary Lou Bentley of Canton, Nancy Powell of Asheville, and Sue Conard of Canton; two brothers, Tom and Bernard Boone both of Canton; four grandchildren, William Dennis Worley, Lydia Warren, Shawn Boone and Karen Robitelle; and four great-grandchildren, Morgan and Madison Sanford and Charlotte and Zachary Warren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at Beaverdam United Methodist Church with the Reverend Billie W. Cranfield and Reverend Harry J. Hawk officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. At other times, the family will be at Bill and Charlotte's home. Following the service, in keeping with Bill's desire, a dinner will be hosted in his memory in the church fellowship hall. Memorials may be made to one's favorite charity.
