William Buckner

Canton, William Kelly Buckner, age 97, died Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Autumn Care facility. He was born in Jackson County, and moved to Haywood County as a young boy. He was the son of the late Nettie Buckner. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 74 years, Rowena Williams Buckner. Kelly was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he served as a deacon from 1945 until 2005. In 2005 he was awarded a plaque in appreciation for 60 years of faithful service as a deacon and servant of God. Kelly worked at Champion International for 46 years and fully enjoyed his retirement. He is survived by a daughter, Ramona Blaylock of Canton and a grandson, Dr. Reginald Blaylock of Mississippi. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 24, 2008 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Perry Brindley and Reverend James R. Burress officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Mt.
