William Burgin, Jr.

Reverend William Grady "Bill" Burgin, Jr., age 65, died Thursday, February 19, 2009 at his residence. A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Reverend W. Grady and Lois Lavender Burgin. He was a United States Navy veteran having served as a medical corpsman in Vietnam. Later, he worked as a physician's assistant, photographer, and freelance writer. Bill retired as a United Methodist pastor in 2007. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Lindley Burgin; one son, William Clark Burgin and his wife, Leslie, of Mt. Holly; two daughters, Kathy Lynn Burgin Sisk and her husband, Tim, of Leicester, and Karen Burgin McLaughlin and her husband, Mark, of Leesburg, VA; one sister, Reverend Dr. Nancy Burgin Rankin and her husband, Terry, of Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren, Haley Burgin, Beth McLaughlin, and Mark McLaughlin, Jr.; a niece, a nephew, three great nieces, two great nephews, and an extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 28, 2009 at Clyde Central United Methodist Church with Reverend Randy Tingle and Reverend Mike Leatherwood officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall of the church.
